Signalong

Aims of the course:

To learn how to access Signalong manuals
To learn new, relevant signing vocabulary
To understand about using body language and facial expression in communication
To understand SIGNALONG is a client led system
To learn about generalisation and over-generalisation of terms
To learn about symbolic development, introducing new signs with real objects and in real situations before moving onto more abstract concepts
To gain an understanding of basic word levels and key signing
To be able to read and perform any sign from any SIGNALONG manual
To understand the communication needs of the individuals in a signing environment

Duration

This is an accredited course 15 hrs in duration and can be facilitated in the following ways:

2 days x 7.5 hours over two weeks;

3 days x 5.5. hours over three weeks;

4 days x 4.5 hours over four weeks;

Participants need time to consolidate, practice and carry out set work in between the training days.
The time in between the training days also enables the participants to make notes re. what specific vocabulary is needed for the people they work with and so the course can be moulded as it progresses to ensure the vocabulary learned is functional and person centred.
A manual will be provided for each participant and is included in the cost
Successful participants will receive formal accreditation with Signalong
